‘We Will Miss Him Terribly’: The Actress Meg Ryan Shares Moving Tribute to Rob Reiner
Meg Ryan has published a heartfelt tribute to the departed filmmaker Rob Reiner, under whose direction she worked in the iconic rom-com When Harry Met Sally.
A Devastating Incident
Reiner was discovered deceased alongside his spouse, Michele Singer Reiner, at their residence in LA this past weekend.
“We will miss this man so deeply…” Ryan shared on Instagram, alongside a picture of them together. “Our gratitude, Rob and Michele, for your faith in true love, stories, and joy. Your trust in people's goodness and your love for this nation are remembered.”
Charges Filed
Reiner’s son Nick, 32, has been charged with two counts of first-degree murder and made a court appearance today. He’s being detained without the option of bail. It’s been reported that Reiner’s daughter Romy was the one who located her father.
“I must hold onto hope that their tale doesn't conclude here, that awareness can be heightened from this,” Ryan went on to write. “I don’t know, but my guess is that they would want that to be hopeful and humane, to be something that brings us all to a greater understanding of one another and to some peace.”
Family Members Issue a Message
Reiner’s surviving children Jake and Romy issued words today. “Language fails to capture the daily agony we endure,” they said. “Losing our parents in such a horrific way is a devastation beyond comprehension. Beyond being our mom and dad, they were our dearest friends.”
Hollywood Tributes Pour In
Ryan’s co-star, Billy Crystal, joined in remembering Reiner via comments shared yesterday alongside tributes from Larry David, Martin Short and Albert Brooks.
“His comedic touch was beyond compare, his love of getting the music of the dialogue just right, and his sharpening of the edge of a drama was simply elegant,” it read. “He adored his actors. He elevated his writers. His greatest gift was freedom. If you had an idea, he listened, he brought you into the process. Collaborators felt like a unified team. Being guided by him was an honor, yet just one facet of his impact.”
An Enduring Filmography
When Harry Met Sally was a box office and critical triumph in 1989, earning over $93 million globally and earning Nora Ephron an Oscar nomination for best original screenplay.
Rob Reiner was introduced to Michele Singer Reiner during the production of When Harry Met Sally. The pair were connected through Barry Sonnenfeld, a friend and director.
Reiner’s extensive filmography also included classics such as Misery, Stand by Me and The Princess Bride. The director and his wife were husband and wife for over three decades.
