The Showrunner Reveals He Knows How Pluribus Will End... For Now.

The creative mastermind never anticipated that the Apple TV+ show would emerge as a cultural phenomenon. “God bless the fans,” he states. “I did not foresee the show being as widely discussed as it is, and it makes me overjoyed.”

With the first season of the hit sci-fi show reaching its finale—and the next chapter greenlit and underway—Gilligan and his team opened up about the fan response and whether it will impact the future direction of Pluribus.

Regarding the Tremendous Audience Reaction

One could easily to get swayed by the widespread acclaim and audience predictions surrounding Pluribus. He is making a conscious effort to avoid both.

“The experience is akin to force fed your favorite dessert and being tickled to death,” he says. “It's wonderful, but I get wind of it through word of mouth, and that's intentional. Never in my life Googled myself, nor do I ever plan to. It's not a lack of interest. It's a bottomless pit I know I would get lost in and then I'd be never leaving the house from the hardware store and I'd rarely emerge from my living room.”

Regardless of his concerted efforts, there’s it's impossible to ignore the immensely favorable response to the series. The most practical strategy is to accept it graciously and try not to let it influence the direction of the show.

“We don't try to tailor anything,” says writer and executive producer Alison Tatlock. “The narrative we craft is not changed by online forums.”

“It's wiser to keep our focus on the work,” he chimes in.

A Pressing Query: Will Vince Gilligan See the Ending of Pluribus?

Considering Gilligan and his team are not listening by public opinion, can we assume they already know how Pluribus will finally conclude? Essentially yes… with some caveats.

“We have some compelling concepts about how the story could conclude,” Gilligan says. “however, we remain prepared to throw out a decent plan for a more brilliant plan. This approach has served us in well on Better Call Saul and on Breaking Bad even before that. We change course when we get a better idea and I imagine we will be doing that.”

Then again, if all else fails, director and writer Gordon Smith has a rather amusing idea to serve as a last resort.

“I keep pitching that everything takes place within a snow globe, and that we'll pull back at the end and the characters are inside it,” he says humorously, “but no one is buying it.”

Of course, why not reference the iconic TV endings?

“My dream is Carol to open her eyes beside Bob Newhart,” he jokes.

Pluribus is streaming now on Apple TV+.
