Antony Price, the visionary style architect behind some of the most iconic looks associated with David Bowie, Roxy Music, and Queen Camilla, has passed away at the age of 80.

Price was best known for his sculptured silhouettes and dramatic aesthetics, including the soft-colored suits that became famous from the pop-rock group Duran Duran's seminal music video for "their hit Rio".

"They honored him as a 'visionary' and a 'kind, intelligent and razor-witted friend,' the group posted a remembrance on social media."

This news arrives shortly after he unveiled his most recent collection in London, which was his first major show in over 30 years. Artist Lily Allen showcased a dress inspired by the famous black velvet "dress" historically worn by Princess Diana.

An Enduring Influence

Hailing from Yorkshire, where he was born in 1945, Price moved to London during the sixties to enroll at the renowned Royal College of Art.

Shortly after his graduation, he began designing menswear at the label Stirling Copper and was responsible for the body-hugging, buttoned trousers that Sir Mick Jagger wore during the iconic group's "Gimme Shelter" tour in 1969.

He launched his own brand in 1979 and held his debut runway presentation a year later. The show was launched by outfits on supermodel Jerry Hall, who was also seen in the bridal gown Price specifically designed for her marriage to Sir Mick Jagger.

Working with Legends

A key creative partner of musical chameleon David Bowie, Price designed the memorable jacket the singer wore for his "As The World Falls Down" music video in 1986.

His signature ability to merge menswear and womenswear along with his masterful technique in crafting body-hugging looks made him a "genuine original," according to the British Fashion Council.

In the 1990s, he began working on ensembles for Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, such as several ensembles for her US tour after becoming Duchess.

With a vocation that covered more than five decades, Price presented his final runway show in London just last month in partnership with the design house 16Arlington.

  • Sculpted Silhouettes: The core of his aesthetic.
  • Theatrical Flair: Shaping the look of rock and pop.
  • Boundary-Pushing Tailoring: Blurring lines between clothing for men and women.
  • A Client List from Rock to Royalty: From David Bowie and Mick Jagger to Queen Camilla.

Design circles laments the passing to a genuine innovator whose legacy on style and culture remains deeply ingrained.
