The Details Known Regarding the Fatalities of the Bondi Beach Terrorist Incident

A minimum of 16 lives lost their lives and more than 40 sustained injuries when attackers shot at a Hanukah celebration at Bondi Beach, a tragedy Australian authorities have labeled a act of terrorism.

According to the most recent information, authorities have stated the number of fatalities is 16, including one of the alleged gunmen. Moreover, 42 wounded individuals were taken to the hospital.

Those who died are still awaiting formally identified, but investigators think their ages are from 10 and 87 years of age.

Eli Schlanger

Originally from London rabbi Eli Schlanger, 41, was the first victim to be named.

Described as a father of five children, he worked as the assistant rabbi at Chabad of Bondi. Family members and friends remembered him as “vivacious, energetic, full of life and a very kind and sociable person who was dedicated to assisting others”.

“How is it possible that a happy rabbi who went to a beach to spread happiness and light, to make the world a better place, have his life ended in this way?” a relative remarked.

Schlanger and his wife had recently celebrated the birth of their youngest child in October.

Alexander Kleytman

Alexander Kleytman also lost his life, according to his wife.

She told the moments before the shooting, stating they were standing when the shooting started. “He pushed his body up because he wished to be near me,” she stated.

The couple were both survivors of the Holocaust, having faced unspeakable terror in their youth. They had later moved to Australia from Eastern Europe.

Dan Elkayam

French authorities have confirmed that French national Dan Elkayam is a casualty.

Publicly, a senior official expressed that France shared the grief of his family, the Jewish community, and the Australian people.

“This low act is a fresh and tragic example of a disgusting rise of antisemitic hatred that we must put a stop to,” the statement continued.

One Child

A young girl, aged 10 who was rushed to the a children's hospital succumbed to her injuries, police have confirmed.

One Israeli Citizen

One victim from Israel was a fatality in the incident, as per reports referencing the Israeli foreign ministry.

Those Injured

Of the 42 people taken to hospital, many remain under care, with five in critical condition. Those hurt include two police officers who attended the scene.

A wounded man is a member of the public who attempted to intervene to confront one of the gunmen. Called a local hero, he sustained gunshot wounds but is recovering well in hospital.

Arsen Ostrovsky

One of those wounded is Arsen Ostrovsky, a community leader. It has been reported he was hurt and underwent treatment in hospital.

In a message, he described the incident as an “absolute bloodbath,” but also praised the actions of those who came to assist. He said he felt it was a “miracle” he survived.

Evan Zlatkis

Evan Zlatkis, a media director, was another casualty in the attack. He described he listened to “dozens and dozens” of shots.

“Initially, I believed it was rubber bullets, but it penetrated my own skin and into my leg,” he said. “I’ve been shot myself. They bandaged me up. I’m ok.”
