The Baldur's Gate 3 Creators Reveal a New Divinity, Labeling it Their Biggest RPG Yet
The speculation about the recent awards show was significant, notably after host Geoff Keighley shared a puzzling photo of a strange statue. The secret has been revealed. Larian Studios is creating a completely new Divinity game.
Titled simply Divinity, the game was showcased with a daring trailer packed with striking imagery, from a figure engulfed in flames to an orgy and the very unleashing of hell.
A Different Direction
For those expecting Divinity Original Sin 3, this is not that. Larian warned that a third Original Sin game to its beloved RPGs is not currently in development.
However, the developer referred to this new Divinity as a continuation of the core franchise. This distinction suggests that the team is likely designing a more action-oriented experience rather than another turn-based title. For now, this is speculation, as only a announcement clip is available.
The Legacy of Divinity
The Divinity series is universally respected and many say it kicked off the recent resurgence of deep computer role-playing games. These games are celebrated for intricate stories, choice-driven narratives, and complex character building—elements that recently reached new heights in games like Baldur's Gate 3.
While its universe is classic fantasy, what truly sets Divinity apart is the remarkable agency granted to the player.
Where many modern RPGs have pared back options, Divinity is packed with specialized paths only possible with a distinct build with a specific history of choices.
The series is also wonderfully permissive, allowing players to improvise throughout the entire experience. Virtually all objectives can be approached in a variety of manners, often in unexpected fashion.
- You might solve a puzzle because you heeded something a dog told you.
- Or, you could bypass a challenge by teleporting a glob of lava in a clever way.
The Journey Continues
It is this design philosophy that have cemented the series to label games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as a top-tier role-playing games ever made. Now, the RPG community can get ready for another adventure in this legendary franchise.
