Starting Lineup

The goalkeeper Had little to do to perform before the break but then forced to intervene by Arbër Hoxha’s bent shot. His sliding challenge on Qazim Laci highlighted excellent reading of the game. 6/10

Jarell Quansah Tested against the opposition's biggest threat through their forward. Operated more centrally initially then shifted wider after Saka entered the fray. Seven

John Stones Moved forward with the ball at his feet, a familiar role in the past. On occasion was too casual on the ball with the experiment discontinued after the break. 6/10

The tall defender Always dangerous on corners and free-kicks, as always, but may be an alternative for Stones at the back rather than alongside him. One wayward distribution after the break almost led to the first goal for the visitors. 6/10

Nico O’Reilly One more assured performance by the rising star after his debut versus another side. A teammate was unable to take full advantage of an exquisite backheel over their defense. The role looks secure already. Seven

Adam Wharton His maiden beginning with the national team. A bit sloppy in possession however his dangerous deliveries posed a danger. A useful pace-controller for the coach to utilize against teams who drop deep. Booked for a poorly timed foul. 6/10

The midfielder Set-pieces from corners and set-plays were dangerous. Had license to drift down the left flank only to be in an offside position as the pass came in shooting positions. Given a deserved rest after an hour. 6/10

The star midfielder Operated in an advanced spot out wide while also did plenty of dirty work. Demonstrated glimpses of brilliance but dragged an attempt wide. Substituted in the closing stages by a teammate, his rival, after being booked. Seven

The winger Had the team's best chance in the opening period, his effort excellently kept out from Thomas Strakosha. With a teammate hanging back, he was forced to provide width down the right side but his crosses into the box were inconsistent. Substituted late in the match. 6

Harry Kane The match-winner with his 77th and 78th finishes at international level. The opener a trademark poacher’s finish while the second an excellent header following a clever run from his marker. At 32, he continues to improve and the side stand a real opportunity next summer when he's in the team. 8

The attacker Found it tough to get into the game out wide. Was presented with a presentable chance after being played in by Bellingham but Strakosha kept it out. His replacement had a greater an impact when substituted. Five
