Slot Asserts He Is Safe and Retains Liverpool's Backing After PSV Humiliation
Arne Slot conceded that it's understandable for doubts to be asked about his future following another convincing defeat versus PSV Eindhoven.
The Reds endured their 9th defeat in 12 games, representing the team's worst streak after being relegated in 1953-54.
They were dominated by the Eredivisie champions on a tough evening at their home ground.
“I am feeling safe, I am OK, I have got a lot of backing from the top,” the coach commented.
“It would be great to change things and secure a win obviously but if you are coaching a team and not doing well then it's typical that people question you.”
He added, “I'm comfortable with my position. This isn't the initial instance I’ve been in a difficult position but it is about time that we improved our results.”
Discussions with Club Management
Upon being questioned to expand on his discussions with the Liverpool hierarchy, Slot explained:
“We talk a lot. They assist for the squad and for me and we have those conversations but they aren't calling me constantly of the day to say they back me.”
He added, “During our regular exchanges I sense the belief. However I've not talked to them since this match so far so we'll see.”
Recurring Issues and Player Reaction
The manager expressed regret over recurring shortcomings from his Liverpool side in their European loss, namely poor finishing and conceding too easily.
Meanwhile, player Curtis Jones was blunter in his assessment of the club’s predicament.
“I don’t have the solutions. Honestly, I do not. I'm telling that to everyone,” the midfielder said.
“It's simply not good enough. I don’t even have to wait to reflect. I’m past being angry internally. I've reached the stage now where I simply lack the phrases.”
He went on, “It's tough because I play for the club I love. I support them, and I’ve seen this club for years.”
“For many years, I haven’t experienced a Liverpool team enduring a spell of this nature with outcomes like these.”
Jones stated, “However we still have the emblem on our shirts. And until it is removed, we will always fight.”
“Our aim is to bring this squad return to the top, show everyone once more what Liverpool stands for and why people call it the greatest side in the planet.”
“However currently, we’re in the shit and we have to turn it around.”
