Man That Grabbed Ariana Grande at Red Carpet Event Barred from Singapore
An individual of Australian nationality who vaulted past a barrier and grabbed celebrity Ariana Grande has been deported and banned from Singapore.
The individual, aged 26, was given a sentence to over a week in jail for disrupting public order and has now been "barred from re-entering Singapore," Singaporean immigration authorities informed Singaporean press.
The man shoved through camera crews and approached aggressively the performer and artist, who was attending the regional launch for the film on November 13. Co-performer Cynthia Erivo pulled him back from Grande.
The individual has a record of causing disturbances at events and star-studded occasions, including rushing the stage at Katy Perry's Sydney concert in the past June.
The occurrence provoked strong reactions in Singapore, with numerous people saying he of re-traumatising Grande.
The pop star has mentioned suffering from PTSD after a suicide bomb attack at her show in the UK city in several years ago resulted in the deaths of 22 people and hurt numerous attendees.
In the legal process, the judge was informed he had made efforts to breach on the film's premiere on two occasions, according to Singaporean media.
He then made a second attempt to breach security. Event security intercepted him and held him in place.
He then uploaded recordings appreciating the celebrity for allowing his presence and said he was "free."
Police arrested him the next day and brought charges against him with public nuisance, to which the man admitted guilt.
The Presiding Judge the magistrate was quoted by Channel News Asia as remarking that the man sought attention, noting that he was mistaken to think he would not face any penalties.
Grande has not addressed the case.
The co-star mentioned the event to the press, remarking that she "just wanted to ensure my co-star was safe."
"I think he had no intention to us injury, but you cannot be certain with these incidents, and I sought to confirm that she was alright. That was my first instinct," she commented.
