Line of Duty Confirmed for 7th Series on the British Broadcaster
The beloved police drama AC-12 will make a comeback for its seventh season, confirmed by the broadcaster.
A brand new six-episode season written by the show's creator will begin filming in Belfast this spring, as confirmed by the network.
The actress expressed excitement about the comeback, saying she was "thrilled" about the show's renewal. Her co-star remarked, "What a joy it is to know that the Three Amigos will be reuniting together next year."
The last series wrapped up in 2021 with a final episode that attracted more than 17 million audience members. Rumors about a new season have been circulating ever since, but official word only came this week.
New Challenges for The Team
Series seven will open with the anti-corruption unit having been disbanded and rebranded as the Inspectorate of Police Standards, according to the announcement.
Steve Arnott, Vicky McClure's role, and Ted Hastings remain tasked to tackle misconduct within the law enforcement.
The team's mission "faces unprecedented challenges", and under these circumstances, these officers will take on their "most sensitive case so far."
New Character and Intricate Plot
A new character, DI Dominic Gough, portrayed as a charismatic officer celebrated for busts of organized crime, faces allegations of abusing his position to become a sexual predator.
Yet, this investigation might serve as a intentional diversion from a bigger threat still active in the background, plot details suggested.
Speaking about the renewal, the creator commented: "Everyone involved feels enormous gratitude to the show's fans."
"It's an honor to have had so many followers watch the ups and downs of AC-12 over six previous seasons and we couldn't be more delighted to be coming back for a seventh season."
Mercurio continued: "Corruption in this country was thought to be over while Line of Duty was off air, so I've been compelled to use my creativity."
Cast Reactions
Martin Compston described appearing in the series as "a job of a lifetime".
"Not only the program's popularity but the colleagues I've worked with I now call some of my closest friends."
"I'm excited to pull the waistcoat on again and get the team back together," he added.
The Nottingham-born actress stated: "Obviously I'm very happy Line of Duty is returning! Can't wait to work with Jed, Martin and Adrian again. The city, we'll be there shortly!"
Adrian Dunbar noted: "As we count down the unit return, how exciting it is to know that the central trio will be back filming next year."
"Delighted with the news and looking forward to those unexpected twists and turns."
Series Legacy
Line of Duty premiered in the early 2010s and evolved into one of the most popular TV dramas of the past ten years, attracting notable actors such as Stephen Graham.
The BBC has not yet announced exactly the upcoming series will hit screens.
The conclusion of season six drew the long-running storyline about the hunt for criminal mastermind known as "H" to a conclusion, and the creative team said at the moment there were no intentions for additional seasons.
However, the corporation confirmed on this week that a seventh series is now being produced.
