Lando Norris Leads Oscar Piastri in Sao Paulo Practice Session
Lando Norris has beaten his teammate at each of the last five grands prix.
Lando Norris just pipped team-mate and championship contender Oscar Piastri for the fastest time in the final moments of the practice session at the Brazilian Grand Prix.
The British racer, who seized the title advantage from Piastri by a single point after winning in the Mexican Grand Prix a fortnight back, outpaced the Melbourne-born driver by 0.023 seconds.
Earlier in the session, Piastri had been the quickest of the McLaren pair for most of the session before the sprint shootout set to begin at 6:30 PM GMT.
The Red Bull star, the sole remaining contender in the points battle, lying 36 points behind behind Norris, was classified in P17 as his Red Bull team followed a alternative strategy.
His teammate the Japanese driver was the only driver to go off, if briefly, when he rotated at the fourth corner early in the session.
The Japanese lost control over the exit kerbs before sliding over the gravel trap, and was blessed to escape with just a light touch of the barrier.
Ferrari's the seven-time champion also spun, at the very end of the practice, spinning around through the high-speed Mergulho turn before the final corner on to the pit straight.
Hamilton finished practice in 19th place, one place behind teammate the Monegasque driver.
Norris and Piastri were significantly quicker of the other competitors, with Nico Hulkenberg's Sauber in third, over half a second off Piastri's pace.
The Aston Martin of the Spanish driver was fourth fastest, with the Sauber of Bortoleto fifth from the Mercedes of Russell and Alpine's Pierre Gasly and Williams' Carlos Sainz.
