He says that although using the independent fifth-generation network, your mobile could still switch to previous networks if a faster connection is not available.

He says that for most people, "independent 5G doesn't provide good value because it fails to deliver adequate benefits for cost since the agreements are expensive".

He further notes that the signal reach remains inconsistent, including major urban centers such as London while he mentions this advanced technology means "users have better chances to receive improved performance in crowded locations such as transportation hubs".

Consumer expert representing consumer advocacy told that consumers are entitled to clear information.

"Consumers believe you're accessing specific performance though in reality don't and precision is essential," he said. "Consumer protection legislation includes rigorous requirements about how accurate information must be with different services, so why does that differ in this case?

In response, the trade body for the UK's primary network providers, confirmed that the 5G indicator doesn't always indicate a live 5G connection.

They clarified the display signifies a user is in locations with 5G availability, and that providers "dynamically and seamlessly steer customers to the best connection, whether 4G or 5G, depending on current conditions like signal strength".
