The co-founders behind the famous ice cream brand Ben and Jerry's has stated that corporate owner Unilever prevented the launch of an innovative pro-Palestinian ice cream flavor.

Ben Cohen, that established the company with his partner, disclosed how he plans to independently develop the controversial flavor as part of an individual series highlighting causes Ben & Jerry's has been prevented from addressing publicly.

Ongoing Dispute Involving Founders and Parent Company

The recent development deepens the ongoing tension among the internationally recognized dessert company and its corporate parent, the UK-based packaged goods corporation which acquired Ben & Jerry's for over two decades.

Both founders have asserted that Unilever along with their ice cream division the Magnum brand improperly prevented their company against "fulfilling its ethical commitments".

Watermelon Sorbet becoming an Emblem of Solidarity

The entrepreneur revealed through an Instagram video that he's developing an innovative watermelon-based frozen dessert, asking for public suggestions regarding the product's name plus additional components.

“I'm accomplishing what they were prevented from doing,” the founder commented from a cooking set. “I'm creating a watermelon-flavored ice cream that calls for permanent peace for Palestinians while demanding repairing the damage that was done there.”

This particular fruit has become an emblem for solidarity with the Palestinian people due to its colors, which match the colors in the Palestinian flag – the distinctive four-color pattern.

Historical Social Engagement plus Recent Developments

In 2021, Ben & Jerry's ceased sales of its products in areas under Israeli control, leading to Unilever transferring the Israeli operation over to a local licensee, thereby permitting ongoing distribution within disputed territories.

This upcoming dessert series is being developed under Ben's Best, the socially conscious dessert company that originally established several years back for endorsing ex- political contender Bernie Sanders via the product "Bernie's Return".

Management Changes and Future Plans

Mr. Cohen stated how he plans to develop additional ice cream flavors focusing on concerns that Ben & Jerry's was silenced from speaking about openly by corporate restrictions.

This development follows co-founder Jerry Greenfield resigned his position at the company recently, after decades of involvement, mentioning worries regarding how the company's autonomy had been compromised following corporate moves to restrict its social activism.

At that time, Ben Cohen stated how “My partner has a really big heart and the ongoing dispute with our parent company was deeply distressing him."

“My conscience compels me to continue to work inside the company to advocate for corporate autonomy ensuring that the company can actualise its ethical purpose, the values that established its foundation while upholding for decades," he explained to journalists.
