A Pig's Tale: Hog Named Six Seven Pardoned by Miami Dade County Mayor.

It might not have been at the identical stature as pardoning Thanksgiving turkeys, but the county's top official conducted a presidential-style act this week by ritually sparing the life of a swine named Six Seven.

Daniella Levine Cava carried out the annual tradition at the Cuban-themed Latin Cafe 2000 in the core of Miami’s Little Havana neighborhood.

“The swine has done no wrong. Clemency is justified for her. She has committed zero crimes,” Levine Cava said in a speech with inescapable allusions to the extraordinary and sizable number of executive clemencies issued from the start of the onset of a current administration.

“Except perhaps for eating six or seven apples per day,” the mayor added. “May this pig enjoy a prosperous future free from concern.”

The gathering, either celebrating or rejecting the area's customary feast of consuming swine during the holidays, was founded to mirror the traditional fowl clemency at the White House.

The swine, contributed by a first responder, was given its name from the popular vernacular phrase of young people yelling “six-seven” – originating from a musical verse – often without clear purpose. The craze became so widespread that a prominent word reference recently declared “six-seven” its annual vocabulary selection.

A Peaceful Retirement

The pardoned swine is now scheduled to spend its days at a rural sanctuary “distant from barbecues and spits”, according to the event’s official press release.

“The annual pig pardon has become a cherished method to begin the end-of-year celebrations,” said Eric Castellanos, in a decidedly positive message.

“It represents the spirit of Miami: vibrant, multicultural, and grounded in customs that unite the community. Annually, we are delighted to mark heritage and mercy in a way distinctively Miamian.”

Guests enjoyed a meat-free selection of spinach fritters and strong coffee as they toasted Six Seven’s big moment.
